Welcome to the

The Tin Tan Tales

Another turn-of-the-century childhood book handed down to my mother, and in turn my sister, has stories of kitchen equipment coming to life. The subtitle reads, "A Book for Children". I guess it would be, if you wanted your children to swear off cooking, or even entering a kitchen at night. Pranksters at heart, the utensils can be downright deadly to one another, and make quite a mess in the process. Some are benign and playful, and even play music.

In doing a search using the "Google" engine, I came across these links to more information on this book:

  • Ohio State University has a sample picture from a different version of the book than we have, evidenced by the style of the example.
  • The University of North Texas mentions this book as an example of a printing technique called "chromolithography".
  • Lastly, it seems a dealer of rare books has a copy (clearly in much better condition than ours) for sale, advertised in an advertisement in Adobe Acrobat format.
